CITY CUSTOMERS CAN QUALIFY FOR THOU$AND$ IN REBATE$
Posted March 9, 2010 - City of Port Angeles Electric Utility customers can potentially receive thousands of dollars in rebates from the City's Weatherwise Service program to help them save energy and money by adding insulation and replacing old windows and glass doors.

There are many ways to save energy in your home. The City offers rebates of up to 85 cents per square foot to add insulation to attics, walls, and crawlspaces; and rebates up to $6 per square foot to replace windows and glass sliding doors. When combined with other incentives for efficiency measures such as replacing electric strip heating with a heat pump, City customers could potentially receive thousands of dollars per household in rebates for combining a series of conservation measures.

“The program's goal is long-term energy savings, and customers who take part will likely see an increase in their home's comfort right away,” said Bob Kajfasz, the City's Weatherwise Service Administrator.

Adding insulation is in many cases the single most cost-effective addition a customer can make to cut heating bills. For example, by adding 1,500 square feet of R-49 insulation to an un-insulated attic, a customer could be eligible for a $1,275 rebate from the City, or about one-half of the total cost. Replacing 200 square feet of windows with newer, energy-efficient models could qualify a customer for a $1,200 rebate, which would cover 15 to 20 percent of the cost........
