It is an honor to welcome you to this web site on behalf of the dedicated and professional men and women of the Port Angeles Fire Department (PAFD). Whether you are visiting for business reasons or just browsing for pleasure, our goal is to better acquaint you with the Fire Department's programs and activities as well as provide a more convenient way to communicate with us.
For over 110 years, the Port Angeles Fire Department has been protecting the lives and property of citizens and visitors of Port Angeles. During this time, the Department has transitioned from an all-volunteer department, primarily responding to fires, to a combination career/volunteer department providing a broad range of modern services. These services include an outstanding emergency medical delivery system, fire suppression and rescue, and a comprehensive fire prevention program.
The events over the past few years, locally and globally, have reinforced our need to build strong response alliances. Our recent downtown fires have illustrated the need for effective mutual aid programs, and the events of 9/11 and the Southeast Asia tsunami have shown the need for pro-active planning and the reliance on diverse resources. The Port Angeles Fire Department is committed to strengthen our areas mutual aid programs and to continue to plan for a regional approach to large-scale man-made or natural disasters.
While the Fire Department continues to respond to budgetary impacts created by our economy and recent tax-limiting initiatives, we are pleased to report that the Fire Department has decreased its general fund obligation – paying for 36% of the Department’s expenditures through revenues primarily generated by Medic I.
As Chief, I am extremely proud of the dedicated men and women of the Port Angeles Fire Department and their commitment to provide the best service possible. To this end, we welcome your ideas, comments or concerns. It is our collective commitment to constantly look for ways to improve the services we provide and we appreciate your input. Fulfilling these responsibilities would not be possible without the support of the City Council, City Manager, City staff, and community.
We at the Port Angeles Fire Department thank each of you for your continued support.
