The Vern Burton Memorial Community Center is located in the center of the city, with easy and convenient access to public transportation, downtown shopping, restasurants and hotels.

The main exhibition hall is 8100 square feet, with a capacity of over 1100 standing or 500 banquet occupants. The main hall measures 90 feet x 90 feet and has a banquet capacity of 500, with a standing capacity of 1000.

Two exits access a landscaped interior atrium that features an impressive and attractive garden area during the summer months.

The main hall can also be divided in half for dual activities. Spacious restrooms are located just off the lobby and are ADA accessible. A separate meeting area is dividable by moveable walls in up to three separate sections and has an overall occupancy of 65 persons.

Located immediately adjacent to the Port Angeles City Hall, the main parking lot is on east side of the center with a capacity for approximately 80 cars and capacity for larger vehicles. Additional street parking is also available nearby.

The Vern Burton can provide your group or organization with a public address system featuring microphone outlets throughout the hall for easy access with extra microphones also available. The Vern Burton features a "TOA" stereo music system with mixing console, complete with tape and CD player.

The main hall has multipurpose fixtures for various lighting applications to provide just the right atmosphere for your event.

Originally a high school gymnasium, authentic "old school" hardwood flooring and the elevated ceiling make the Vern Burton suitable for basketball, and other indoor sports. Two removeable basketball hoops can be put into place, and both volleyball and badmitton nets are available for use.

A well equipped, and caterer-friendly, kitchen featuring a convection oven, ice machine, dishwasher, walk-in refrigerator, warming ovens, hot plates, steam tray, and plenty of counter space in easily accessible from the main hall or meeting rooms. Tables and chairs are available for up to 300 people.

Open Gym for Noontime Basketball
Parks & Recreation offers an open gym time for all basketball players who want to get some exercise in during their lunch time.

Open Hoops time is from 12 noon until 1pm at a cost of $1.00 per visit. A script card is available for 25 visits for $20.00. See our office for details.

Fee Schedule

The Vern Burton Memorial Community Center fee schedule is based upon the type and nature of the requesting group. Additionally, consideration is given to City resident versus non-City resident use.

Category I - Any City sponsored, co-sponsored or City supported activity whereby the City either plans, conducts or offers some degree of activity participations (i.e. facility, leadership, funds, labor, etc.)

Category II
Groups who can produce proof of their 501(3)(C) non-profit status qualify for Category II pricing. This includes all community and civic groups such as Lions, Kiwanis, Rotary, etc.

For example: A non-profit organization that provides a community function where profits to the organization benefit community programs and where possible vendors and/or businesses that are involved in the function receive funds also.

Category III
This category shall be defined as any profit, commercial, political and religious activities. Additionally, private parties such as wedding receptions, retirement banquets, class reunions and other private parties of this nature shall be classified priority III.

The intent of this priority is to recognize the gym will not be in continual use and there are some possible uses somewhat removed from the primary gym purpose that may be permitted.
