The Solid Waste Utility operates and maintains the City's solid waste collection system and contracts recycling services with Waste Connections, Inc. Waste Connections, Inc. operates the Regional Transfer Station, Moderate Risk Waste Facility, Compost Facility, and the Blue Mountain Transfer Station under contract with the City of Port Angeles.
"Choose to Conserve" is the theme of the solid waste reduction and recycling program for the North Olympic Peninsula.
The logo was developed in 2004 by the City of Port Angeles Solid Waste Division, with the support of the Clallam County Solid Waste Advisory Committee.
The mountains in the logo convey our beautiful environment, the arrow represents the circular nature of life and the concepts of reduce, reuse, and recycle.

“GARDEN GLORY COMPOST” RECOGNIZED IN BIOSOLIDS MANAGEMENT AWARD October 14, 2009 - The City of Port Angeles Solid Waste Division has been recognized as a runner-up in the 2009 Excellence in Biosolids Management Award for their promotion of “Garden Glory Compost”. The awards were announced recently at the Northwest Biosolids Management Association annual conference.
This award recognizes significant contributions in the development and implementation of cost-effective and environmentally beneficial biosolids management programs and practices. A wide range of activities are considered including operating projects (all sizes); technology development activities; research projects and public involvement and marketing programs.
The City's Solid Waste Division began selling “Class A” co-compost in 2007 and sales have increased five-fold since its introduction. “Garden Glory Compost” is 25% biosolids and 75% yard waste and screened to 0.5 inch. The Regional Transfer Station annually produces 3000 to 4000 cubic yards. Finished compost is sold at $20 per cubic yard with discounts to bulk buyers.

This product is a mixture of yard waste and biosolids composted at the Composting Facility. Yard waste includes grass, leaves, branches, and other yard debris from residences and commercial activities in Clallam County. Biosolids come from the treatment of wastewater at the City Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The City expects to produces approximately 3000 cubic yards of compost each year. These biosolids are treated and strictly monitored in accordance with regulatory requirements. The City of Port Angeles certifies that this product complies with all applicable standards....
MODERATE RISK WASTE FACILTY The Moderate Risk Waste Facility is part of the Regional Transfer Station (old landfill site) located at 3501 West 18th Street in Port Angeles.
Located after the scales, this new facility accepts typical household hazardous waste at no charge for both city and county residents......

The Clallam County Solid Waste Advisory Committeedevelops programs and policies concerning solid waste handling and disposal. The committee is made up of citizens, public interest groups, businesses, waste management industry, and local elected officials.

The Citizen Waste Reduction Group is a subcommittee of SWAC formed in 2006. This group of volunteers is dedicated to the reduction of material in the waste stream through research, educational outreach, and hands-on volunteer support.
