Connecting Service
Getting utility service is quick and easyPort Angeles Utilities provide power, water, sewer, recycling and garbage collection services. These services are only available to residents and businesses located inside the city limits.

All utility services are billed monthly on a single bill and include power, water, waste water (sewer), sanitation (garbage) and a charge for Medic I (aid car/ambulance).

Connections requested to be completed outside the normal business hours of Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm may be subject to an additional after hours fee of $130.00 as of January 1, 2008.

Utility Service to Existing Buildings

Almost all existing buildings have utility services already installed. To apply for service, you only need to have an account set up in your name and a one-time charge of $25.00 will be billed to connect utilities.

To accomplish this, you need to come into City Hall, 321 E 5th. The cashier's station is located to your left inside the main entrance. To speed up your application, you are encouraged to have the following information available:

  • Billing Name
  • Date of Occupancy
  • Mailing address
  • Physical street of address
  • Telephone number (home and/or work)
  • Valid picture ID
  • Social security number
  • Copy of your rental agreement (if applicable)
  • Deposit ($125 to $250.00 depending on required services) or letter of credit from your previous utility or credit bureau.

In most cases, utility services can be made available the same day as you apply for service if you apply before 12:00 p.m.

Utility Service to New Buildings
If you are planning to construct a new building, your first step is to acquire the necessary permits. After or at the same time you are satisfying the requirements for permits, you can apply to have utilities installed to and/or on your property. In most cases power, water and sewer lines already exist in the alley or street adjacent to vacant lots.

If you are planning to develop property into lots, or in some rare cases with existing building lots, you will need to have utility lines extended to your property. In either case, the process for extending or hooking up to utility lines is the same. You need to contact the Public Works & Utilities Department (2nd floor of City Hall or phone (360) 417-4700 or email and provide us with the following information:

  • Name and address of property owner
  • Name and address of contractor performing work
  • Telephone number (home and/or work)
  • Physical address of lot, legal description of property or tax parcel number
  • Construction schedule
  • Size of electrical panel and size of heating source (if electric)
  • Number of bathrooms or any special water needs

With this information, Port Angeles Utilities can determine if we need to extend facilities to your property and the required capacity of equipment necessary to provide utility services for your building. We will provide you with a written estimate of the cost to extend facilities or hookup to existing facilities, as well as a list of any other items you are responsible for.

High voltage power equipment and main water and sewer lines, as well as all metering equipment, are provided by the City at cost. Payment must be received from the owner prior to the City installing any new facilities. After utility facilities are installed, you will still need to set up an account with the City.

The property owner is responsible for providing and installing facilities on his or her own property including but not limited to: 1) underground 120/240 volt power line from transformer to building; 2) water line from the meter to the building; and 3) sewer line from main line to the building. Specifications for owner provided facilities will be provided upon request (local contractors are familiar with City specifications).
